✨ Why I Wrote This Book
Growing up in the South, I never saw girls like me fully represented—complex, contradictory, creative, and culturally conflicted. I tried to fix that in my screenplays. I wrote about Black women walking the line between tradition and rebellion, sacred and profane, conservative and progressive.
But Hollywood didn’t always get it. Pitching took its toll. The waiting, the maybes, the watered-down notes. I started to feel like my voice needed another route. That’s when I discovered self-publishing and found new life as a storyteller.
This book is a response to that silence. A diary for the voices we don’t usually hear. A rebellion wrapped in rhythm and reverence.
